The Red Box Project
The Lunar New Year is a time of fun, feasting, or just enjoying the holidays… but not all may enjoy it as much as we do. For some less-fortunate children, the season may not be as special, not as joyous as it is for us. Let’s not forget these kids and our responsibility to our society.
And so, The Red Box Project was conceived to help us make this Lunar New Year a much more special and meaningful one for these children. Just as the older generation gives us red packets every Lunar New Year as a sign of blessing, we want to bless the younger generation.
It wasn’t too long ago that we were kids. We know what it’s like to have dreams and wishes: that toy, that fancy pen, that superhero lunchbox… these kids have all the same dreams! It might just be a little harder for them to realise these dreams than it was for us.
So how does it work?
The concept is simple: take an old shoebox, wrap it like a gift, and fill it with little gifts that children will love and find useful, then drop it off at one of our collection points.
On Saturday, 6 February, these boxes will be distributed personally to the children and teens in our beneficiaries’ centres.
We need you!
There are 2 ways to be a part of this. Why not help us in both ways?
- Donate a shoebox – this project cannot happen without your generous donations. All it takes is a little thought and effort to make a child smile :)
- Volunteer – we need volunteers every step of the way, from managing the collected boxes to being part of the team that distributes them on 6 February.
Help us put a large, beaming smile on the faces of 700 children this Lunar New Year!
We are a team of three final-year students from the Wee Kim Wee School of Communication & Information (WKWSCI) at Nanyang Technological University. From the beginning of our final year project, we hoped to be able to do something that made a difference in society. And with so many supporters coming alongside us to make this Project possible, we are well on track to doing just that. All that’s missing now is your support.
Let’s make 700 children smile this Lunar New Year!
